Why should we recognize animal abuse as a form of violence against humans?

* Threatening, injuring or killing animals may indicate an increased potential for violence / lethality.

Is there a connection between animal cruelty and human violence?
Nearly a quarter of all cases of intentional animal cruelty also involved some form of family violence. Domestic violence is the most common domestic violence reported, followed by abuse of children and the elderly.
* 21% of intentional animal cruelty cases also involved some form of family violence.
* 13% involved domestic violence. In these cases, the perpetrator abuses his partner and forcing the victim to see cruelty to animals.

Based described in this paper, it is clear that pets play an important role in people's lives. Unfortunately, as investigated, the connection between animal abuse and human violence, is an unknown to many vets here in Argentina. Work done to confront the problem at the level of veterinary medicine are foreigners.
Violence family is a real and severe problem that exists in society. We, as veterinarians, apart from caring for and protecting the health of animals, we also have a responsibility to safeguard both animal welfare and society.
